AMA - Redefine Your Career Narrative
Tables are turned and I'm joined by an incredible go-getter and leader of some of the biggest brands! Veronica Llorca-Smith is taking the seat of the interviewer this week and asks some candid questions on all things career reinvention, establishing yourself in a different country, overcoming those unique challenges that come from starting over and everything in between.
Some of the topics we discuss:
1) Getting back to the workforce after a break:
Having moved to Australia recently, I have been out of the workforce for a few months, and it’s daunting to take the first step back. Just like me, there are so many people who have been out of a job for a while, either due to lay offs, maternity break or just some time off. What advice do you have to get started and take the first step?
2) Building your network:
One of the most effective ways to find a job is through connections and network. It’s all about relationships and talking to the right people. How do you start building your network when you are new somewhere, or you are starting from scratch?
3) Branding yourself:
For years, I have identified myself with the company I was working for, particularly if it was a power house brand like Apple or Estée Lauder in my case. However, I have realised that my biggest brand is not the company I work for, but it’s actually myself as an individual. Selling yourself as your product and service is key. You are an expert in branding; what are some good tips you have for how to position yourself and start building your own brand?
4) Building a community of followers:
Having a social presence is important if you want to build your branding and a community around it, however the space seems really saturated when you look at places like LinkedIn, with thousands of content creators and it’s difficult to find your sweet spot, especially when there are so many experts in every single topic. What are the building blocks to build a community in a sustainable way?
5) Tips for continuing learning and growing.
