The Unconventional Path to Recruitment:
Richard shared a unique entry into the recruitment world. Coming from a background as a musician and aspiring rock star, his journey took an unexpected turn. After touring as a musician, he decided to pursue higher education, completing an executive MBA in his early 30s. It was during this time that the idea of entering recruitment took root, sparked by a suggestion from a recruiter he had previously been a client of.
Arate Executive: The Birth and Meaning: Following stints with global recruitment giants like TMP Worldwide and Davidson Recruitment, Richard founded Arate Executive in the midst of the 2009 Global Financial Crisis. The name "Arate" stems from a Greek word, meaning the fulfillment of one's full potential. Richard shared the challenges and triumphs of steering his business through economic downturns, industry collapses, and the recent global pandemic.
Recruitment Evolution - The LinkedIn Impact: Richard discussed pivotal changes in the recruitment landscape, notably the game-changing role of LinkedIn. The advent of LinkedIn and its recruiter licenses disrupted traditional recruitment models, shifting the power dynamic between recruiters and employers. The conversation highlighted how this transformation influenced the industry, making employers more self-reliant in talent acquisition.
Differentiators and Innovations: As a response to industry shifts, Arate Executive stands out with a commitment to candidate-centric practices. Richard emphasized the importance of responsiveness and treating candidates with respect, challenging common industry habits.
